Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a minimally invasive technique that helps improve the skin's appearance and removes fine lines or scars giving you a rejuvenated, more youthful look. Peels are usually used on the face, neck, and de´collete´, but may also be used on the hands.

How do chemical peels work?

Treatments work by causing the upper layers of skin to blister and slough off, revealing fresh, new skin underneath and helping to remove imperfections, lines, wrinkles, scars and discolorations. The newly revealed skin has a texture that's softer and more uniform, which means the skin's appearance is enhanced.

Who is a candidate for this procedure?

Typically this skin-freshening technique is better suited for those with fair skin. People with darker skin tones may benefit from peels, but there is a greater risk of having an uneven skin tone following your procedure.

What's involved in receiving a peel?

The steps involved in a peel vary based on the depth of the treatment, and each type of peel uses a different type of chemical solution. We only perform mild or light peels by which the solution is applied to your skin and allowed to remain for up to 10 minutes, during which time the skin will begin to turn white. A neutralizing wash is used at the end of the peel to stop the chemical reaction.

What are the advantages of this approach?

Chemical peels have many benefits, and can be used to:

  • Reduce or eliminate wrinkles caused by aging or sun exposure
  • Reduce wrinkles around the eyes and mouth
  • Reduce the appearance of scars including acne scars
  • Reduce skin discoloration like freckles, age spots and dark spots
  • Improve the skin's texture and appearance

Will I need follow-up treatments?

Mild peels may benefit from touching up several times a year. Our dermatologist will be able to help you determine how often the light peel should be touched up in order to help you get the results you're hoping to achieve. Please contact us for further information regarding having a chemical peel completed in any of offices in Clark, Kearny, Elizabeth, South Plainfield, Teaneck or Staten Island.
