May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Metropolitan Dermatology conducted three free skin cancer screenings at three different locations. Two screenings were for local firefighters, police and municipal employees. One was conducted at our Teaneck office and a second at the Springfield (Dr. Doctoroff's home town) municipal building. November 2009
In November 2009 Dr. Doctoroff attended 2nd International Dermoscopy Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Doctoroff was one of very few Americans attending the conference. He learned multiple advanced techniques in skin microscopy. Skin microscopy is currently not only used for diagnosis of skin cancers, but also for treatment of inflammatory conditions (psoriasis, lichen planus, etc), hair disorders (alopecia areata, genetic alopecia, trichotillomania and so on), and pre-cancerous conditions (actinic keratoses, Bowen's disease). The knowledge will allow our practice to remain on the cutting edge of scientific innovation.
